Novo Nordisk enters billion-dollar collaboration with Orbis Medicines

Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk has entered into a strategic collaboration and licensing agreement with fellow Danish company Orbis Medicines to develop next-generation oral medicines for cardiometabolic diseases. This is stated in a press release.

Orbis may receive up to 1.4 billion dollars, equivalent to 13.8 billion kronor, in upfront, development and commercial milestone payments. In addition, tiered royalties on any future product sales will apply. Novo Nordisk will also make a strategic investment in Orbis.

The collaboration is based on Orbis’ AI-powered nGen platform, which combines generative AI with high-throughput synthesis to develop orally available macrocyclic medicines targeting hard-to-treat targets.
